Here is what we studied this semester. Look over the description and answer the three questions posted below:
Chapter 6 was about fractions (simplifying fractions by factoring, multiplying, dividing, adding & subtracting fractions).
Chapter 7 was about applying fractions (ratios, proportions, percents, mixture/work problems, scientific notation).
Chapter 8 was about functions (slope of a line, equation of a line, graphing using slope-intercept form, determining the equation of a line).
Chapter 9 was about systems of linear equations (solving using several methods - graphing, substitution, and add/sub - wind, water current problems & puzzle problems).
Chapter 10 was about inequalities (combined inequalities, conjunctions & disjunctions, absolute value, systems of linear inequalities).
Chapter 11 was about rational and irrational numbers (irrational square roots, square roots of variable expressions, add/sub/mult/div radicals, multiplying binomials with radicals, radical equations).

Question #1: What were the three most difficult concepts for you this semester and why? How will you study for these for the final?
ReplyDeleteTo me, chapter 7, which included scientific notation and mixture/word problems was the most difficult concept of this semester. I never learned about scientific notation at all, therefore, I was absolutely new to this concept, and it was confusing. I wasn’t sure where the decimals should go.
Next, chapter 9 was a little difficult for me in someway, because linear equations is one of those concepts that I dislike. Wind and water current was quite hard at beginning, but I got the grasp of it at the end. I had to study for this test very much, because Ms. Lee and Mr. Jobe told us that this test will be very hard.
Other chapters were fairly straightforward, but chapter 6 was quite hard because it was just calculating, which I am not that proficient at. I surely did make many mistakes during this chapter in homework and classwork.
For all of these, the main way for me to study these for the final will be reviewing the tests and quizzes that Mr. Jobe gave back. Although I might’ve gotten a satisfying grade then, I probably forgot several things so it is essential that I review them.
Question #2: Some students love the challenge of mathematics, and others not so much. Do you like mathematics? Why or why not?
I don’t “love” the challenge of mathematics, because some that I cannot solve are very annoying. However, I do enjoy mathematics generally, especially about shapes, like about the pythagorus. Also, I know that math will encounter my life many times. If I am going to have to face it, I should be proficient with it, and what’s the point of doing math without fun? If you do anything with fun the skills of it increases, so it is beneficial for me to enjoy math and I do enjoy it.
Question #3: Regardless of whether you enjoy studying mathematics or not, do you feel like this Algebra class was successful in moving you through this enormous amount of material? Why or why not?
This Algebra class was incredibly successful in moving me through this large amount of material. Before, I didn’t really have the basic, but in Algebra my basic got much more stronger. I think getting stronger basic really helped me at the end of year with good test grades. Since math always builds up one another, I think I will be able to do quite well in Geometry next year with all the fabulous things I learned in Algebra.

ReplyDelete1. The three most difficult concepts were doing work problems, wind, water problems, and mixture problems. I think I am going to study for this by solving a lot of the word problems in the book.
2. I think students love the challenge of studying mathematics because it makes you feel good when you are done solving it. It is kind of like a puzzle so if I don't finish solving something, it's kind of frustrating.
3. I think I learned a lot from this class. I think that it was successful because in the beginning of the year, I didn't know how to do things that I can do easily right now.
Question #1: What were the three most difficult concepts for you this semester and why? How will you study for these for the final?
ReplyDeleteThe three most difficult concepts were applying fractions to word problems(chapter 7), using system of linear equations(chapter 9) and rational and irrational numbers(chapter 11). Chapter 7 was challenging because I did not like word problems and chapter 9 was also challenging because of the word problems related with wind/water current problems. Chapter 11 was hard because it took me more time to understand this chapter than the previous chapters. At first, I struggled understanding how to multiply or add binomials with radicals but I studied at home so I learned how to do it:) For the final, I think it is important to identify the chapters I am struggling in and what chapters I did well on. I will definitely study harder for the chapters I mentioned above. I like reviewing the problems I got wrong when I did my homework because that helps me not to make the same mistake again in the final. I will also look over my old tests and quizzes and correct the problems I got wrong.
Question #2: Some students love the challenge of mathematics, and others not so much. Do you like mathematics? Why or why not?
I like mathematics. Mathematics is a subject which really makes me think hard. I like to solve problems that are challenging which help me to understand that concept even better. When I solve math problems, I often find myself not letting go of my pencil until I find the right answer. Mathematics is definitely a subject that I enjoy. :)
Question #3: Regardless of whether you enjoy studying mathematics or not, do you feel like this Algebra class was successful in moving you through this enormous amount of material? Why or why not?
The Algebra class was very successful in moving through this enormous amount of material. I am amazed how we went through all the material so fast through the year. Mr Jobe’s classes are move along quite fast but he always helps me when I have a question about something. I also study hard outside of school but I think the most important thing that helped me get through this course was that I did all my homework. Most of the problems from the tests/quizzes were straight from the homework and so solving all my homework problems helped me understand the concept much better and practice the things I learned in class. Algebra class has definitely helped me to learn how to study for math as well as learn the math concepts covered in the book. :)
Question #1: What were the three most difficult concepts for you this semester and why? How will you study for these for the final?
ReplyDeleteThe three most difficult concepts were graphing equations, solving equations with roots and studying factoring. I will have to teach myself by using the textbook and ask the teacher the things that I do not understand.
Question #2: Some students love the challenge of mathematics, and others not so much. Do you like mathematics? Why or why not?
Yes, this is simply because it is one of the things that I can actually do well on.
Question #3: Regardless of whether you enjoy studying mathematics or not, do you feel like this Algebra class was successful in moving you through this enormous amount of material? Why or why not?
Yes, because I have learned numerous amount of new things in this class.
Question #1: What were the three most difficult concepts for you this semester and why? How will you study for these for the final?
ReplyDeleteThe three most difficult concepts for me this semester were chapter 7, applying fractions, chapter 8, functions, and chapter 11 which was about ration and irrational numbers. Chapter 7 was difficult because understanding a word problem and setting a chart for it was confusing. The hardest part was to label numbers in right spots with correct units. Also, in pre-algebra, we skipped the scientific notation section. So, it was hard for me to understand this section clearly. The only way to improve this for the final is to practice over and over to make me used to setting up charts and scientific notations. Chapter 8 was a hard concept because applying formulas such as ax+by=c on other things were confusing. I would memorize accurately all the formulas so that I do not get confused and practice making graphs and equations with these formulas. Last but not least, chapter 11 was about rational and irrational numbers and I think they are very complicated and tricky. Especially, when you think you are done, but see that you can simplify more. I would study how to double check more specifically after I’m done so that I do not miss to simplify.
Question #2: Some students love the challenge of mathematics, and others not so much. Do you like mathematics? Why or why not?
I like mathematics because it’s fun to actually solve the mystery question with any methods that help. After you solve a question algebraically, it is amazing to see how we can get answers by just formulas or a set up question. However, I do not like the challenge part of mathematics that takes for a long time. Mathematics is fun and interesting but do not like problems that are hard to solve and take a lot of time to solve it.
Question #3: Regardless of whether you enjoy studying mathematics or not, do you feel like this Algebra class was successful in moving you through this enormous amount of material? Why or why not?
I think this Algebra class was successful in moving through this huge amount of material. This is because the class was fun by doing practice games or competitions that helped us learn the concept faster in a fun way. Although sometimes the lesson was sort of fast, and some students had difficulty in catching up, it was a good class. Also, for the students who could not follow in class, had time to ask questions during lunch or after school to Mr.Jobe which made the class very even and similar. Moreover, I think this class taught me many strategies in solving a question which were helpful in solving problems. I believe this Algebra class was a good class that helped on my and other student’s math a lot.
Question #1: What were the three most difficult concepts for you this semester and why? How will you study for these for the final?
ReplyDeleteChapter 7 was kind of annoying, because you had to multiply by 1.100 to get percentage stuff.
Chapter 8 was hard, because the equation was long and it gets complicated. Eventhough you study it's hard to get it correct, because people get confused. Rational and irrational numbers, because there are too many equations to memorize. I will study this by memorizing the equations, and because I am weak at word problems solve lots of them and the normal ones.
Question #2: Some students love the challenge of mathematics, and others not so much. Do you like mathematics? Why or why not?
I love mathematics, because everyday I learn, and it's very interesting! This does not mean that I am good at math.
Question #3: Regardless of whether you enjoy studying mathematics or not, do you feel like this Algebra class was successful in moving you through this enormous amount of material? Why or why not?
It is successful to me, but when I first was in Algebra, I was too lazy, but as time passed, i participated more, and focused on solving problems, so I am happy.
Question #1: What were the three most difficult concepts for you this semester and why? How will you study for these for the final?
ReplyDeleteDisjunctions and conjunctions, wind water current problems, and slope intercept form were the most difficult concepts for me.
I will study for disjunctions and conjunctions by going through their definition and examples again. Then I will not have a hard time separating and differentiating conjunction and disjunction. Wind and water current problems could be solved through writing my work down. I tend to skip some steps when I do these problems which mixes up my variable. therefore, I will write down every step for the final in order to make unnecessary mistakes. Slope intercept was another major barrier because I always forgot to put them in the proper order. One way to fix this for the final is to practice checking over and writing them in the correct order again and again until it becomes a normal habit.
Question #2: Some students love the challenge of mathematics, and others not so much. Do you like mathematics? Why or why not?
I like mathematics when there is no answer to it and we just think. I am not really a fan nor am I really fond of sit-down-and-solve-questions mathematics. I like the thinking-no - answer-research mathematics. This makes us think for and we are not under the pressure of worrying whether or not the answer is right. Thus it is more interesting and fun to do in terms of mathematics.
Question #3: Regardless of whether you enjoy studying mathematics or not, do you feel like this Algebra class was successful in moving you through this enormous amount of material? Why or why not?
I think this class really helped me move along through these enormous amounts of materials. Algebra class was fun and was where I learn a lot of terminology, concepts of math equations, inequalities, etc. I think I clasped a good grip on all the general concepts. Through, Mr. Jobe's class, I 've been able to concentrate more on not making silly mistakes. My calculation speed became faster because there is a lot of mental math practice. Thanks a lot Mr. Jobe!
Question #1: What were the three most difficult concepts for you this semester and why? How will you study for these for the final?
ReplyDelete- Chapter 7 was about applying fractions (ratios, proportions, percents, mixture/work problems, scientific notation)was the most difficult concepts for me this semester because the three concept that are word problem and scientific notation and percents are the most problem I have in math class. I am gong to study this by practicing a lot in text book and trying to make correction by myself.
Question #2: Some students love the challenge of mathematics, and others not so much. Do you like mathematics? Why or why not?
It depends on the section and if i understood that section perfectly then I will like some challenge of mathematics problem but if i don't i wouldn't like it. so it depends on whether i am good or bad.

- I love studying math!!!!!!!!!! But i think it was very successful because Mr Jobe helped me a lot in lunch time and in class time. It was well explained.
Question #1: What were the three most difficult concepts for you this semester and why? How will you study for these for the final?
ReplyDelete- Inequalities
- Simplifying fractions
- ratios/proportions
- I would study for this final by first going over the basics of each concept, so I would have less difficulty when solving more hard, critical ones. After that, I would go over the questions we went over class in my notes as well as solving questions that seem difficult.
Question #2: Some students love the challenge of mathematics, and others not so much. Do you like mathematics? Why or why not?
- I don't particularly love the challenges of mathematics and love the topic, but I think I have times when I enjoy practicing my skills in math when doing homework or when I have achieved a good score in a test. It is because this means I could have a greater challenge next time and try harder.
Question #3: Regardless of whether you enjoy studying mathematics or not, do you feel like this Algebra class was successful in moving you through this enormous amount of material? Why or why not?
- I think this Algebra class was successful because first of all I personally think the classes and homework were very well organized for me to go through and prepare for tests. Also, I was able to mostly understand the enormous amount of material, and I liked it that there was plenty of time and chances to ask the teacher something I didn't know, although I doubt that I used these chances appropriately...
Question #1: What were the three most difficult concepts for you this semester and why? How will you study for these for the final?

Question #3: Regardless of whether you enjoy studying mathematics or not, do you feel like this Algebra class was successful in moving you through this enormous amount of material? Why or why not?
- Yes, it was successful, as I believe I was able to review what I have learned before
1. The three concepts that were hard for me throughout the whole year were doing the word problems the whole year, and wind and water problems, not the problem itself, but drawing charts for me was extremely hard, also the graphs where you have to shade, was a bit tricky for me.
ReplyDelete2. I don't know for other classes, but I think our class enjoys the challenge problems that you give, and it's like a funny puzzle that you want to solve more and more every time because it gets tricky and tricky more.
3. Although it was all a review for me throughout the whole year, I think it was a good review and a good preview for the amount of work next year and number of tests next year.
Question #1: What were the three most difficult concepts for you this semester and why? How will you study for these for the final?
ReplyDeleteThe three most difficult concepts and the reasons were:
chapter 7, section 6: i keep on getting the formula wrong. (change in percent/100 = change in price / original price).
chapter 8, section (forgot): i keep on forgetting to put it 1/x therefore, i got bad scores including the chapter 8 test......ㅠㅡㅠ
Chapter 9, final section: the last of the hardest
was the puzzle problems because i kept on misinterpreting the problems incorrectly.
Question #2: Some students love the challenge of mathematics, and others not so much. Do you like mathematics? Why or why not?
honestly, i never liked math too much because........im not sure really.... i never did. I think it has to do with that i never exactly got a good grade in math. Or maybe its due to that the answers are limited. Im not sure.
Question #3: Regardless of whether you enjoy studying mathematics or not, do you feel like this Algebra class was successful in moving you through this enormous amount of material? Why or why not?
